The most common gulls of the shore, red-billed gulls are found all around the New Zealand coast. They are a similar size to the black-billed gull, and the two can be confused at the juvenile stage. But the adults with their red beaks and legs are easily identified. They feed on krill and small fish as well as insects, worms and scraps they find on land.
