The Mount Cook lily is in fact not a lily at all. It belongs to the buttercup family and is also known as the Mount Cook buttercup, giant buttercup or mountain buttercup.
Its flowering image has been used on postcards, stamps and even as a logo on the side of aircraft. Nowhere is it more beautiful though than when seen growing in large numbers on a mountain hillside with its beautiful white flowers and large glossy leaves.
