During late afternoon/early evening the colors of the Grand Canyon become prevalent. This view is from Mather Point. The creation of the Grand Canyon is an ongoing process that began over two billion years ago. During this time, the Colorado River and its tributaries have been carving this canyon out of the Colorado Plateau thus creating this magnificent and colorful monument that we know of today. The Grand Canyon National Park was finally created in 1919 via a bill signed by President Woodrow Wilson. Theodore Roosevelt created momentum towards its creation during a visit in 1902 and subsequent expounding upon the virtues of its preservation.
